    Description

    1855 Braided Hair Half Cent, Cohen-1, just the one variety for the year.  Choice Uncirculated PCGS MS-63BN.  Considered a common date, despite a mintage of only 56,500 - try that with any more popular (and actually far more common) 20th Century series such as Lincoln Cents!  Such is the lot of the “Little Half Sisters”, considered mainly a Type coin.  This is an attractive original coin typical of those put aside in the mid to late 1850’s as the series was retired, as an example of the vanished breed.  Some well hidden, very wispy “hairlines” in the field in front of Liberty’s face, not from a cleaning but due to random non-numismatic storage (light enough that I could not get a clear image to show them). This storage also produced the slightly uneven Obverse color.  Still shows signs original Red surface in areas of the Obverse, otherwise a mostly medium Chocolate Brown.  I will note a similarly graded example of this date currently (early 2021) being offered by a well known specialist that while technically correctly graded is less attractive in my opinion, due to some obvious contact marks in prime focal areas, which the example offered here is not affected by.  As for price, unfortunately you can thank ebay’s idiotic new 15% fee regime – I am more than happy to sell for less under different circumstances.
